What Pro adds over Home

• BitLocker device encryption — full-disk encryption. The most common reason people move up from Home, especially on a laptop that leaves the house.
• Remote Desktop host — connect into this PC from elsewhere. Home can only connect out.
• Hyper-V — run virtual machines natively, without third-party software.
• Domain join and Group Policy Editor — attach the PC to a company network and control Windows settings centrally.
• Higher hardware limits — up to 2 TB of RAM and two physical processors, against 128 GB and one on Home.
• Deferred feature updates — decide when large updates install instead of taking them as they arrive.

Already running Windows 10 Home? You do not need to reinstall — entering a Pro key performs an in-place edition change and your files, programs and settings stay where they are. Installing from scratch

If activation does not go through

• Type the key rather than pasting it. Some builds strip the hyphens on paste and then reject the key.
• Check which edition you are on. A Pro key will not apply to a machine already activated as Pro, and Home Single Language builds sometimes refuse an in-place edition change. Run winver to see your edition, or read how to check whether Windows is activated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose my files?
No. Activating Pro, or moving from Home to Pro, erases nothing. Only a clean install removes data, and that is your choice, not a requirement.

Does my PC need a TPM chip?
No. Windows 10 Pro has no TPM or Secure Boot requirement. That is exactly why it suits machines Windows 11 will not accept.

Is this 32-bit or 64-bit?
